What is sexy?

The announcement earlier today about Angelina Jolie’s pre-emptive double mastectomy for fear of future breast cancer made me pause for a moment to consider what makes a woman sexy to me. What follows is purely subjective and I hope it is taken in the spirit in which it is meant.

What makes a woman sexy?

Is it her amazing boobs? (Angelina Jolie)

Image

Is it her sinewy legs? (Amy Purdy, activist and meningitis sufferer)

Image

Her flowing hair? (Persis Khambatta from Star Trek: The Motion Picture)

Image

Her fashion runway looks? (Emma Thompson)

Image

Her youth? (Dame Helen Mirren)

Image

Her demur nature and delicacy? (Team Canada’s Cassie Campbell)

Image

Her fame? (Leela with my grandmother)

No, what makes a woman sexy is who that woman is, not what she is or how she looks. It is what comes from within when you take a moment to get to know her.

That is the sexy that stands the test of time. That is the sexy that makes me want to be in her presence.

  1. I like a man who knows that the true value of women rests within them and cannot be seen when looking at their breasts, ass or their hair.

    • Not that I have a problem with breasts, asses or hair, but thank you, my friend.

I too have spent much of my life being judged by what is without rather than within (including by me), so I understand the challenges if not the specifics.

      • Neither do I, but as a woman, it is nice to hear that there is more to me than my physical appearance. Iget it a lot that people (that is, (mostly) men) stare at my features and spend ten minutes drooling rather than spending ten minutes to get to know me.

    • I actually thought of including her, but I wasn’t sure how to phrase it…also, I was worried that I might offend some who would balk at juxtaposing sexy and Mother Theresa.

      Thanks for adding your thoughts.

Perhaps, as was suggested by someone else, there will be a part II
