In case anyone ever tries to tell you Canadians aren’t overtly patriotic, let me set the record straight.
- Our rockets don’t tend to have a red glare, but they burst just as brightly
- We remember our history and the honour due to Mother England
- As welcoming as Canadians are, it can be difficult for foreigners to access the wonders of my country
- Symbolizing our roots in nature and the breadth of community, my flag fits any setting
- Resting limply or flapping wildly, my flag has a beautifully elegant simplicity
This is awesome! I love the joy you take in speaking of your homeland!
Thanks for commenting.
For decades, it felt like Canadians were apologetic for existing, and didn’t feel like we could compete with the US for siss-boom-bah patriotism.
Nicely, that seems to have changed…and at times, we can even be downright obnoxious in our love of country.
At some point, I realized it wasn’t a global competition. I could love my country and still acknowledge the beauty and wonder in the rest of the world.
